Hey all

My first post here... I've just bought a 1995 EF GLI Sedan from my parents. They have owned it for a long time, when they got it it was an ex Hertz rental car and had 50,000km on the clock. It's now got 226,000 on the clock. My dad has looked after this car extremely well ever since he's had it. It's had the head replaced on it a few times and generally other than that it's never let him down. It's been regularly serviced (trans included) etc and generally runs like a dream.

I am wondering what peoples opinions here would be on getting it converted to LPG. With the $3000 govt subsidy we have here in WA, would it make sense on an engine that's done 226k?

Also can anyone recommend places who are cheap and reliable who do gas conversions? Or possibly even give me a rough figure off the top of their head on how much you think it would cost...

I was going to ring a couple of places today but ran out of time before all the shops shut so I was hoping someone on these forums could at least give me a ballpark figure how much I'll be out of pocket and of course if it is actually worth getting it done or not.

I plan to keep the car and look after it...

Thanks!

I'm not sure with e series, but with my old XC fairmont it just chewed teh gas real quick so the cost benefits were, at the end of the day, fairly minimal. Having said that with the $3000 gov rebate the outlay is fairly minimal so I'd say flip a coin.

Every car that I have seen that is on gass has had nothing but problems. I would stay away from it.

Agreed Trent

I absoultley hate the shit!

People are very one sighted with LPG conversions. All they look at is the cost of filling it up. They dont remember the economy is worse, there is a loss of power, loss of boot space the tanks have to be certified every 10 years, the car needs a gas tune, the convertors forever leak, they make the car harder to work on, the valves dont like the extra heat on and theres an excise coming on gas either late this year or early next year. If the government give you insentive to fit something be afraid!

Only time i see gas as a valid option is if you do massive kays, go straight LPG (not duel fuel) or you buy a factory gas car.
