Anyone know a surefire trick to get an aftermarket tacho to run in a BA?

Yes, its a dinner plate. Yes, i know its rice. lol.

I have tried averything including the crank sensor, coils, cam sensors, back of cluster, injectors, even tried to find a feed off the PCM.

The PCM doesnt actually have a tacho signal going out. The engine rpm is calculated internally then sent elsewhere via CAN BUS. So no hope there.

Because the info is sent by CRAP BUS you cant get a signal off the back of the cluster, unless your a leccy wizz and can tap into the cluster board. Im not even gonna try.

Trying to pull a signal from the coils just produces a missfire and a slight reading.

The injectors has the same reading, but no missfire.

The cam sensors dont have an affect at all.

The crank sensor almost work, except for the fact that it produces a pulse 32 times per revolution. 6000 at idle....hmmm. must have a lumpy cam.

I dont really wanna get one of those progressive shift lights. Id prefer to know what im shifting at, as well as when. That, and i want some rice in my car. I dont have to take my eyes so far off the road either.

So back to my point. Anyone know a trick or two? Or should i just get myself a tach adapter?

If anyone has any ideas im willing to guinea pig my car to try it.

Also, i thought id put my findings on here in case someone else wants to put a dinner plate in thier B series.

why the f*** do you really want a dinner plate tacho in your car first of all and it can be done you need a tach adaptor ford racing make one and im pretty sure, secondly if you REALLY require one why not get a Stewart Warner tach/shift light has digital tach inside and multiple shift points recall etc and well alot smaller less intrusive on the drivers view etc and if you do look at the tacho well you ARE taking your eyes off the road
keep the rice burner shit in rice burners man or start fitting bulk stickers on ya car get a gutter down pipe and use that for an exhaust and go down to the airport and steal yaself a wing wadesta/A10.gif

Thanks for the tip man, ill get myself an adapter. But as for the tacho. The main reasons for it is to give it a slight old school feel. I will do more than just the tacho tho. Its a Falcon, not a Civic.

And also the position of the original in comparison to my driving position makes it difficult to check my revs. I also plan on modifing the cluster so the tacho no longer exists.

I have mounted it on the A pillar, tucked in to the corner so i only have to glance across to see it, rather than down into the dash. So really, its serving a multiple purpose.

Im not tryin to pepper ya for offering an opinion, im simply just explaining my reasons. It seems like an odd thing to do, especially on a B series, i just wanna try something different. If it ends up looking crap, then ill change it.

But again, thanks for the advice man.
