My brakes are rather spongy, not as stiff as i thought they should be (for an auto). This morning at about 7am, i took off for work, wen around the corner then had to stop at a t junction. I applied the brake yet it barely worked, so i stuck my foot flat, and it slowly stopped. The car was wet from the dew from a cold night. After that stop, the brakes worked better and better then became like normal again. Could this be because there was moisture on the disc? so the pad could be slipping a bit?

I will be bleeding the brakes tomorrow, to try and fix the spongy brakes, and hopefully everything. Was just wondering on your thoughts of what could actually be wrong. There was a bit of gunk in the master cylinder, so going to flush the fluid right out. Also think there is air in the lines somewhere/where's. So this will be fixed. Pretty new master cylinder, so dont THINK its that.

Also, haven't looked yet, but my handbrake doesnt work at all ^_^. Your thoughts?

I guess ill see tomorrow if its fixed anything, but until then i'd like your view on it.

Cheers,
Chris

A set of slotted rotors on the front help alot, especially in the wet.

yeah was planning on getting slotted all round with bendix heavy duty pads...

it's an auto. no need for hand brake lol. i can fix it though.

You may have a bubble on your brake line ( a soft spot on the rubber which expands under braking) causing the sponginess.

i want a handbrake tongue.gif

considering the brakes nearly didnt work in the cold morning, and i nearly stepped out in a t junction, it could prove useful smile.gif

braided lines will give you back some pedal but could also be a leak down of the master cylinder or diaphram in the booster.

yeah master cylinder seems like the culprit, if bleeding the brakes doesnt work. Brake booster seems fine, using the ole pump the brakes then start the car trick smile.gif

It appears i need a brake master cylinder rebuild kit, as there is fluid coming out of the mustardy coloured plug in the side (which im guessing is abs module?). So off to do that then bleed the brakes. Topped up the brake fluid last night, drove about 15km's and its nearly half empty :|.
