I was thinking my next mod will be a cam as they don't seem too expensive yet give alot. Theres only one problem as many of you have stated...WHICH ONE DO I CHOOSE???
My engine is a 2002 AU3 Tickford HP Straight 6 engine with bout 178500km on it. It'll soon have extractors, hi flow cat and 2.5" cat back on it. I want a cam that will deliver more throughout rev range especially mid as shes a daily driver and I dont take her to high revs very often at all.
This is a mod planned for Nov/Dec time so give any and every piece of advice you want to cuz as well as helping me make my decision it will also teach me
Cheers, Joel

...brief run down?
Haha i have no idea either!!

Thats not really a mild cam haha, quite grumpy infact.
All the numbers are in reference to the angles that the cam works off, eg the inlet duration (amount of time the inlet valve is open) is 270 degrees of cam rotation.
Id go for something like a stage 2 as it will have more down low and through the mid range. Big cams sound awesome and make good power but its not until the higher revs and unless your always revving it there its a waste of time.
Id advise valve springs and a tune anyway, maybe even an adjustable cam gear to maximise cam timing. Also spend the extra money and get a new billet so it has the same base circle as a stock cam.
With my personal experience stay away from Crow and head for a Wade instead
Hope that helps!

Ok WILS_88 which Wade cam would you suggest? and will the other stuff you said to replace cost much?
Also I have a flash tuner so will get a tune once its in.

Depends on whether its an auto or manual.
Also what diff gears it has makes a difference too. No good having a cam if you have to wait till start making power. If its an auto, a high stall might be required.
joeboy89- 02-10-2009
Its an Auto so you reckon high stall converter too??? Geez this rate I'll wait buy a v8 block and build it from the bottom up. Didn't know cams needed this much extras I mean course it need a bit but seems the list keeps getting bigger
Cheers, Joel

Since you are after a cam thats good on the street go for one that has good Torque over high power, you will feel that more thru the rev range.

A high stall will only be required if you go too big of a cam.
I would go a tried and trusted cam, perhaps a wade 1636 or other brand equivelant , one you wouldnt need a tune for, good power through the range, like Dan said.
You wont regret it.

would check out CMS over at fordmods joel he has some good numbers on the strip comming from his cars.
will try and get a sound clip from my car nice lumpy haha and its not a CMS or brand name either, hopefully uglybob will get his up and running someday soon(has the same cam)

Yeah the stage 2 is the go, 1636 equivalent for an AU would work well with a tune. Have good midrange pull and that bit extra up top.
