as posted in the staff meeting thread, caught up with Phil - President of WCC and discussed the option of doing a joint run toy cruise simular to the AFF run one like last year but on a much better run scale.

he has agreed and all ready have bounced ideas off each other as to what/when and how things will be run.

so far have came up with a date - penciled in as either the 29th nov or the 6th dec, end location will be mc Cullam park in south perth either have three starting points or just the one havent locked that in at this stage, will be a show shine also music provided by the likes of Nova or 96fm, print and media will be invited and advertised as such, CMC will be apporoched to protect both club via our insurance(WCC is a member of CMC) also the advertising side of things if that is able to be sourced, bouncy castle and kid themed ideas also to bring in the punters.

charity hasnt been decided as of yet so will need some ideas to bring along to next meeting.

please discuss and if any ideas add them in.

Sounds good mate. Starlight would be a good charity since they are aimed at kids. Also Kasey has contacts with them from stuff she has done before for them.

orrite sounds good but dont starlight do hospitals and stuff?

WILS_88- 03-26-2009
Yeah i think its for kids that are seriously ill in hospital. Just improves their quality of life by donating or organising things to take their mind of what they are going through.

Kasey will confirm, im pretty sure im sorta on the mark.

From the starlight website, might help to understand a bit more.

Guiding Principles

Giving children a reason to smile

At Starlight we support seriously ill children and their families, improving their circumstances, first and foremost.

Starlight doesn’t discriminate in our goal to help all seriously ill children in Australia. It doesn’t matter where sick children live, from where they come or what their beliefs are.

Starlight does not aspire to be the biggest, only the best. Our aim is to help as many seriously ill children as possible, in a personal, principled and meaningful manner.

Volunteers are Starlight's greatest asset and Starlight supports and nurtures their needs, ensuring their commitment and effort is recognised.

As a charity, Starlight maximises the percentage of funds raised that flow direct to it’s children’s programs by minimising overheads and soliciting donations of time, goods and services in everything it does.

Starlight fundraising events originate with the objective of a 100% return on all monies raised, and prefer not to use external professional fundraisers. All donors are made to feel part of the Starlight family and a commitment "beyond a donation" is sought.

Starlight employees work as one cohesive and caring team to shine brightly for seriously ill children and their families. Team members exchange innovative ideas, share their vast knowledge, and take pride in both individual and collective achievements.

Directors on the Board are passionate about the cause and are committed to the highest level of ethics in the management and governance of Starlight. The Board embraces the STARS Values and, for every decision and action taken, asks itself ‘what is best for the children’?

Starlight is based in PMH (and other kids hospitals around Australia) and through their Starlight Express Rooms, gives the sick children a place to go while they are in hospital.

However, I see that they could utilise toys at a Christmas event (i.e. gifts for Santa to giveout). I am flat out atm as we leave on Sunday and I have an assignment to finish before I go, but when I get back I will give them a call and see if they would be interested.

In the past, I have done a lot with starlight from fundraising to wish granting to volunteering - it is a great cause and a great feeling to know that you have done something to assist.

I wiill keep you posted smile.gif
