hey ppl, just wondering if any1 knows if the Clear Tail lights for the EL are ADR approved or not? i figured they was, but i got a yellow sticker coz of them on wednesday nite.

I got some new tail lights to put in, but i dont wanna put them in if i dont have to.

Im pretty sure i dont have Red Globes in the tail lights..juss the amber and those platinum ones... is that why i got the sticker? coz the break lights werent exactly red?

thanks ppl.

If its anything like these lights - http://www.ozeparts.com.au/picture%5CF%5CEF%5CFEF8000NAA.JPG

then they are probably not ADR approved, as the site has a disclaimer stating that "This item is intended for OFF-ROAD or show purpose only. It is not intended to be used for regular driving conditions. User must follow the direction given or get approval from proper authority before being used on road."

Everyone has that disclaimer. But no, Altezza/whateva clear lights are illegal as far as I'm aware. You need to be able to see red tail lights. It's got something to do with needing to reflect red to indicate the rear of a car and not confuse it with the front of a car when dark or whatever I think?

Ive had clears on mine for a couple of years. driven past the po po plenty of times and never said anything. You musta caught a cop on a bad day. But if they say their illegal then so be it. Bad luck i guess mate

yeah they arent ADR approved because they do not have a red coloured reflector. i used to have them on my old EF and i had red globes for the break/park lights and they looked kind of orange but still red at the same time.

Apparently they are not ADR aproved, as far as i know. I am not sure about this, correct me if im wrong but all clear tail lights (alltezas) that are not standard from the manufacture of the car are illigal.

Correct me if im wrong again.
Also i think it has something to do with the reflector in the light. It being white/clear causing it not be viewable.

Correct me if im wrong on this aswell.
The light covers being clear apparently confuses other drivers (doesnt confuse me) cause the light cover doesnt tell where the brake light is until you use the brakes which is supose to cofuse other driver.

Now im not 100% sure on the rules but wat i wrote above is what i ruffly remember being told by my cuzn (coppa) cause i wanted clear on my car ages ago, but apparently they look crap on regency red.

Hope this helps you guys out smile.gif wadesta/thumbsup.gif

there are clear/altezza lights that are actually ADR approved. for example my girlfriends car has the black clear lights on her BA and they actually have an ADR approved stamp on them, wher as my EF lights didnt have that stamp on them.

FTe_XR8- 07-12-2008
yeh mine are the same black ones, but its because they have a red reflector for the brake light not just chrome and red lamp.

cool..yeh thanks guys..ended up gettin rid of them anyway, just to be safe... got some EF lights for the EL..looks a lot better with them on then the clears smile.gif

some police may say there not ADR aproved if theres no red reflector from the rear.

like the link

just fit the red tint brake tail and orange indicator with decent brand hella globes, possably never have a problem.

even altessa round red/orange/white versions still "off road use only"
see 100s driving around

least its safer than the Crumpledores with 1 brake light our of 4 like regular see driving around wadesta/A10.gif .

MoXe- 12-26-2008
Thanks for that man, i'll give sss auto parts a call on monday and ask if its ADR approved and i'll give repco a call too.

fnp- 12-27-2008
I wouldn't bother, 99% sure they're not ADR and even if they are they might attract attention and if a copper really wants to sticker your car he will one way or another. Plus, they look like a*** anyway tongue.gif

barney passed the pits with them in, but yes they arent ADR approved due to the reflector issue.

go for them if you so wish they do look good only on the darker cars and some whites.
