After an incident today where my car decided it was a tripod, I am searching for a complete diff, disc to disc to replace the scrap metal that i currently have in there. Seeing as I was planning it anyway I would prefer an xr6 diff from a boxcar, or even from a bubblecar if need be but that is harder to do.

If anyone has anything or knows of someone let me know
I'm kinda desperate so I'd consider any other LSD in any ratio other than 2.77 so long as it will go in.
cheers
Ben

eb or ed easy swap for can even use brakes and rotors from ea, and its bonus cause 28 spline and better ratios.

only thing we had to do was make spacer was around 13mm on the lower arm, ended up using x4 or 1/2 washs till I get around to machining up a spacer.

also remeber the bolt from the lower arm on the diff, there a prick to find at 11pm at night even with my extensive bolt stockpile.

to get you out of the shite could also fit a axle from x series backing plate looked the same.

sorry to be a pain but you obviously know a lot more than I do, all eb and ed's have 28 spline axles? or only later models?

also could I put say an ED single spinner in and then put an lsd centre in it? or does it have to be an lsd?

cheers

most centers and ratios are swapable from xr - au as long as its not the 277 ratio it has different offset of crownwheel.

can also fit vl turbo and some the jap diff gears into the eb diff thats where most the 3.77 / 3.91 and 4.11 come from ford only had as low as 3.45.

been told was eather eb or ed onwards swaped to 28 on the 6cyls and all v8s have 28spline from least xb.

would look for lsd if possable from ed xr onwards if possable should have decent ratio and lsd.

may have to swap the uni joint mount on the back of the diff also changed at ea from the bolts to the ea U joints setup.

I've located a 3.23 LSD that apparently came from an Early EB Fairlane, have been told it will bolt straight into the EA but may have to get an EB tailshaft.

Does that sound legit?
Planning on having a look at it this afternoon and buying it if it is suitable, the price is good.

can swap tail shaft if the price is right from a sedan version even v8 alloy one if can fine one.

otherwise do the cheap option swap the part on the diff over that holds the uni joint.

gavs ea pinky mobile we fitted up 3.23 lsd from ed sedan.

also if he has the gear box see if you can get the speedo gear or hole transducer so the speedo is not 13kmh+ out, think there under $10 fro the gear anyway new so not a biggy.

yeah I already knew I needed the gear to change the speedo, repco will have them?
I bought it as it looks like it should bolt straight up, but I need to either get a flanged tailshaft off an eb-el or as you say swap the joint in the diff, what is involved to do that? I was leaning towards finding another tailshaft but if it isn't hard to swap that might be easier short term.

the all important part, i gave it a turn and it is still an LSD, thats a start smile.gif

cheers for the help guys

Just remove large nut in the center , if you can get access to air compresser and impact gun would make it easyer and lots of lube.
Just tighen till can still turn the tail shaft by hand otherwise may change the way the crownwheel gear mesh.

more than likely have to order in otherwise try coventrys.

thanks, I'm a lot more confident now after looking at both of them next to each other, the new one isn't too pretty, but seems nice and tight, a light sand to get rid of the surface rust and a can of black rust guard will have it looking mint before it goes in.

Fingers crossed she will be back towing furniture on Monday

Got it all cleaned up and painted, has a high performance tag under the drain plug, I wasn't expecting that from a fairlane diff, or do all the LSD's have that tag?
