Heat and temper chart as well as stress relieving. Basically get it to the right heat range, with a temp stick (crayon) or digital thermometer (industrial) and quench in tempering oil . I don't think it would need to be stressed relieved, though it does depend on what material you start out with. I'd be getting my hands on some old (the older the better) large truck axles and starting from there. You wouldn't need to harden it as it is tough stuff, just don't put much heat into it when turning it down. Love being a son of a blacksmith. |
