Hey all,

My XC finally arrived yesterday and after a closer inspection of the shifter and linkages I have decided its time to retire the original shifter and upgrade to a Hurst Indy.

I have heard that they require some modification in order to fit within a standrard aussie falcon console and was wondering if anyone has done this or whether it needs modification at all?

Also where is a good place to get my hands on a Indy shifter kit here in Perth?

Any help or experience that anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Brad

Is the Hurst Indy shifter for a Toploader ?

If so, here is a picture of how to do it from when I whacked one into my 351C XD.

The standard mounting kit for the Hurst Indy shifter is not even close to fitting into the falcon trans tunnels and consoles.

You can use a spacer block between the transmission shifter and shifter arm, but it is a bit dodgy.

Instead, you will need to cut and re-weld the Indy shifter mounitng bracket at an angle to clear the trans tunnel as well as bend the linkages to suit.

Superoo Falcon spares in Armadale or Performance unlimited in Welshpool normally stock these.

Have fun !!

round 12years ago bought mine from performance unlimited for around $250 prices may of changed.

thay have the good points and bad.
being so far to the left you grope passangers leg each time you select 1&2 good when its hot girl smile.gif , bad if its a guy mad.gif .
but super tight really springs to the 3/4.

I ended up not modifing the above shifter had to do lot of chopping of the original xf floor shifter hump and fitting the xd bolt on version I used 2 1/2 exhaust tube chopping in 1/2 and welding where the shifter rods rub and aftermarket shifter boot seals the hole.

ignore the multi grip shifter tongue.gif

Instead of getting a Hurst shifter consider reconditioning your top loader shifter. The kit is cheap and easy to do.Also get some new linkages. You'll be amazed how good they are when fixed. Also put nylok nuts on the linkages as they tend to come loose a bit. wadesta/thumbsup.gif

sorry brad about not replying back to your pm but been
thinking why its not coming out of reverse.

my only though may of been forced to far.

might be good time to drop the box take the inspection
cover off the top and kit or replace the shifter while its apart.

to adjust if you can free reverse on the hurst
(dont know if its similar on factory shifter)
theres a 1/4 hole when in neutral the hole should
line up and slide though all the way though to the
other side.

The standard shifter is the same. You loosen all the linkage bolts so they slide freely in the slots. Then you move all the linkages so you can put a 1/4" pin through a series of holes in the plates under the shifter. With the pin in you then re-tighten the linkage bolts in the slots and they should be reset.

reminds me that didnt add the photo with the arrow
pointing to were to stick the 1/4 drill or steel roundbar
when adjusting the shifter.
