hey all
as you may all know by now i am new to the club
lol
i own an XH panel van
the thing is im sick of a column shift auto. that was the reason i almost didnt buy it
do you guys no anywhere in perth that can do a reasonably priced manual conversion? or is this something im going to need to do myself?
im more than happy to do it myself its just one of them things id rather have done professionally
also, how much would i be looking at for a bigger cam for one of these things? its just the standard 4 litre

thanks in advance for any help:)
damien:)

hey all

umm with the panel vans the floor pan needs to be cut as the hole was never put there due to the column shift
then the hole needs to be reinforced too
you will also need a box, shifter, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel
pedal box to do it properly and other bits im missing

no idea on who will do it either
and if someone did it for you dont expect much change from 5k if they source all the parts

There were a few xh vans that had manual transmission so it's prolly a long shot but might be worth ringing around the wreckers to see if any are around for parts, might save a bit of dosh. I would guess an xh ute would be suitable for parts as well.

another quick question, is the rumour about the crankshaft needing changing tru aswell?
thanks heaps for all your help:)
and yes, the XH ute is pretty much exactly the same:P
im thinking of making the tailgate into the back instead of the double open doors:P

I doubt the crankshaft would nead changing, doesn't make alot of sense.

I changed the doors on my old xh pano, let us know if you want pics or tips.

Razorwire- 02-21-2009
if it was putting a ute door on then please do send me the pics?
my email is: metta_kway@hotmail.com
add me on msn if you want:P

No reason to change the crank mate, you might be thinking flywheels because the EA had a 3 bolt one and I think after that they're 6 bolt.

If you get an EA box then I think, but am not sure because I used an EL box on my EL, that you need an EA flywheel to suit, and it should come as part of the conversion package.

Speak to Tocchi - he's selling the manual out of his EF.

Razorwire- 02-24-2009
will that fit an XH?
hope so
i hate auto as it is, let alone column shift
lmao

sorry mate, totally forgot about this, will dig out the pics of my old van tinight smile.gif

ok thanx heaps for that:)

OK mate here are some piccies of my old van.

I think from memory that we ended up cutting out the entire upper hinge section from an XE that had a tailgate, rather than trying to fiddle fart around with hinge mechanisms and it also helped with alignment. The bottom half we may have done the same, tho I do vaguely remember creating a new hinge section for it.
The hardest part at the end of the day was removing the 'dips' where the barn door hinges were originally. I think we just tepped it out as best as possible then filled it to get it smooth.
Anyway here are some pics from the back and from the front on the next message.

from front / side...

the xds had a unboltable transmission hump then you cut hole ruff then bolt over.

beleve even the pedal box should fit im running the xd pedel in the xf xh and xg basicly the same.

crank some have do tap a spigot bearing bolt the flywheel on.

would sugest making a shoping list try round up hopefully cheaper.

things needed

gearbox / bell housing e series later the better
flywheel & the 6 bolts to bolt to crank (there longer than the auto ones)
shifter
rubber boot to seal exhaust fumes
clutch pressure plate & the 6 to bolt to flywheel
spigot and clutch release (sometimes comes with clutch if new)
clutch cable
peddle box xd-xf
plate that go`s on between block and flywheel starter bolts to.
floor hump xd
gear box wiring not hard to adapt the 4 wires (nutural switch and reverse)

if it was an e series i would say drop it at my house and i would convert to manual for you for $500 in labour, you supply parts,i have only done an xd sedan for the x series and that was a long time ago
