A few new questions, and before people start saying it, i have tried browsing many other forums (boostcruising, aff, fordmods etc...) so if you do know of a thread somewhere with the answers, please link it rather than telling me to do my research....
the questions.......... if I was to aim for the stage 3 kit from snort performance (or any other equivalent kit) with an aim for somewhere between 300-350rwhp......... is the T5 capable of handling it with some upgrades (i've read one build thread where the box was strengthened) or would it be cheaper and easier to just get a T56? I've read a lot of mixed opinions, half tending to say that the T5 is crap and the other half being from my mindset thinking that the T5 is very underrated. As far as clutch goes I know the single plate I have now would shred itself on the first 1500rpm launch so that needs to be upgraded regardless of what gearbox i use.
the other question..... would a 3.45LSD from an EL XR6 handle the torque, or should I not bother getting one? ( i was planning on putting one in before christmas), obviously if it won't then I might as well hold out and keep the 2.77 until I can afford to buy an aftermarket one
any advice here would be awesome, thanks

In a nutshell................box won't last long if you give it hell. Use the XR6 diff for sure.

Hey mate, the standard T5 ratios aren't likely to do you much good in the long run, but you can fit the T5Z ratios out of a turbo into the car and they'd stand a better chance. They ma not be bulletproof, but they'd buy you time to save up for a T56 at the very least. And because the turbo boys are getting rid of the T5Zs top upgrade to T56s it's pretty easy to source a box thesedays..
As was said, the LSD would be a vast improvement, probably worth having it all checked out by a diff joint before putting it in tho, spending the money upfront could save money in the long run.
Good luck

Mate i'd get the diff, get it checked out or even better get it re-built if will have done a fair few km's and if your gonna be giving it a thrashing it will be worth it in the long run. Then start saving for the T56 or T5Z then once you have done that save for the turbo kit. I know that it seems like the long way to do things but it will be better in the long run coz trust me if you have the power you will want to use it and the last thing you'll want is for some thing to go bang! it always costs more to replace something when its broken.

The T5 will not hold up under that sort of power. Have a browse through the XR6 Turbo forums, there's plenty of cars there with that sort of power (easy for an XR6T) with different transmission combos and the T5 is simply not up to the job. It won't be cheap but a T56 is the way to go. Reckon on about $8000 or so, maybe a bit more.
XR6 diff should be ok so long as you look after it and have a bit of mechanical sympathy for the thing, but they're not indestructible.

In a nutshell the T5 will not last.....
as for the diff, the LSD would be a good start a lokka (like tocchi and carl) or a kaaz (like mine) would be better options.....

I've read about an ED used for drifting that is pumping out about 380rwhp that still has the T5 in it, it has an aftermarket gearset and bigger bearings in it. That being said, a mate owes me a few grand and if he pays me back before tocchi sells the T56 I will be buying that. My only concern is how much work will be needed to put the T56 in as I can't say I've read or heard of anyone putting one in an E series yet, however I am reasonably certain that some modifying needs to be done to mount it.
So the XR6 diff will be stable, but not bullet proof..... going on my driving record ( a set of 4 tyres once only lasted 2000kms) I will be looking into the aftermarket jobs.
I can't find out many specs on the T56, so does anyone know roughly what the limitations of the one tocchi has is? and also the clutch?
I know they will be overkill for my 350rwhp goal, but would be nice to know how far I could take it before worrying.
also while i think of it, how much torque would i be looking at? no turbo'd e series i have ever read about has listed torque figures and torque being the downfall of clutches and gearboxes I'd like to know what it'll have to deal with

Yep, T5 wont last with boost no matter how much shit u give it......................
fnp- 11-25-2008
XR8 chic has a T56 in an ED XR8. Google it, should come up pretty easily.
Tocchi- 11-25-2008
^^ and Rollin in his turbo ED, and Clampy had a T56 in his EF/L XR8 (he sold the car)

http://www.malwoodauto.com.au/ this guy prob has the most stuff out there for the gearbox side of things your looking into although i had another quick skim and the majority is for AU onwards but he does do alot of other stuff. its not cheap but you get wat u pay for and hearing from a couple of ppl that have his kits they are very pleased with them. you may be able to get a kit from him minus the gearbox if you buy tocchi's? or maybe a TKO500/600 im not sure wat their worth but maybe another option.
as for the diff a few of the guys on here have KAAZ diffs and seem happy with them, and they seem to handle the abuse well which is a bonus. from memory its about $1800 for an e-series one?
