I put a 235/45/17 tyre on one of my 17" Torque Thrust II rims to check for clearance today. It fits no problem except it rubs the fuel line on full lock but that is an easy fix. This has two benefits.first there are heaps of tyres in that size too choose from and it also lifts the car off the groung a few more mills. wadesta/thumbsup.gif
Now to decide what tyre to go on the back to improve grip. tongue.gif

Dunlop SP Sport seem to be great for grip, Worked wonders for me, even in the wet.

I'm looking at Toyo Proxes.Either the T1R 265/40/17 or the R888 255/40/17.The R888 is a race tyre that is street legal but may wear very quickly. It's also only sold at selected outlets.A lot of the bigger tyres (255 or 265) are only being made in 18 or 19 inch rim size now.
If I go for the T1R's they have a 235/40/17 I could put on the front.it may come down to price in the end.I want something that is capable of doing track days and drag racing.

Those wheels look sweet on mate!!! They are one of my faves, i have wanted a set for the cortina for ages! Either Toyo's will give bulk grip!! Tho a set of drag slicks on a seperate set of wheels just for that might be the way to go if your gonna go all the time.

I ordered a set of Toyo Proxes T1R's from Paul at Tyrepower today.I got the only two 255/40/17's in WA and there are two (and only two) 235/40/17's arriving in the first week of August which I have ordered. I was hoping to have them on for the next cruise but not going to happen.

They're pretty good tyres, you should be happy with them.. also consider Federal 595's, came to me recommended by a barbs instructor and they're good.

Finally got time to put the new rims on today.I think they look pretty good. With the new tyres I have gotten 10mm higher in the front and 15mm lower in the back so will have to have a good look at how it's sits.It still looks to be higher at the back.
I took it for a drive and buffed some of the shine off the rear tyres.Definately has more grip than the old Yokies even though they are a fair bit narrower. Also the steering is much lighter as the old Cragars were steel rims and these are aluminium. All in all I'm very happy with the result but next time I want to get some wider rears as there is plenty of room for bigger tyres. wadesta/thumbsup.gif

Here is a comparison between the old Yokis on the left and the new Toyo. The Yokie is 15mm taller and about 25mm wider. The extra height is going to hurt my speed per RPM on the road which alresdy sucks but the extra grip will be handy biggrin.gif

Little Blue ZH- 08-20-2008
f*** yeah, they look sick Foz!

Surely you can get a larger profile for the rears though? (Not that you would because I know how much of a f*** around it was trying to get the tyres that are on it now ph34r.gif )

Anyway, looks horn mate, extremely jealous here wub.gif

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with them yet Andy. They may be back on the car for Powercruise yet. They are 265x15's but on the 8" rim they are much bigger than the 265 Bridgies I had on the 14" rims.
I'll be sure to let you know if I decide to sell them. wadesta/thumbsup.gif

There are some bigger ones around but I wanted something with plenty of grip.I thought the 255"s would be a bit bigger. They are fairly square sided so they put most of there tread on the ground.Anyway plenty of time to look around now biggrin.gif

new setup looks heaps better. well done
