Here is some pics of the first rebuld I did on my car.It was the early eighties but not sure exactly when. The first rebuild was really just about putting a faster motor in it but I had all the rust cut out of it by a panel beater as well.Once the rust was out I drove it down to Perth (from Port Hedland) and had the motor built by a guy called Gary Peat who was a speedway engine builder. The rebuild was:
4 mab nitrided crank.
30 thou over bore
fitting 4V open chamber heads
hydraulic cam
Weind X-celerator manifold
750 Holley
Pacemaker headers
plus all the usual bits and peices.
My brother in law and I then put it back in and I drove it home.

This is it before the rust was cut out

Also had a sunroof fitted before I drove it back to Hedland.

The new engine proved to be reliable and reasonably fast but was a fantastic highway car happy to sit on 100mph all day.I did the return trip to Port Hedland of 2100KM in 15 hours without trying too hard.Thats an average speed of around 140KM/H.

Well may as well show the second rebuild. This was basically a paint job.The interior was stock but still in very good condition so I left it alone.I did at a later date do a full retrim in red and black velour.Sad but true.
So I drove down to Perth again as Mum had a new place with a big shed.My mate Todd and I stripped it down and I painted the spray putty and undercoat. After much sanding and drinking it was ready for a top coat.A freind of mine Glenn Higgins who owns Glenway Signs and is resposible for painting many of the drag bikes at the Motorplex applyed the top coat of Volvo "wine red" and the black GT paintouts.

On the return trip to Port Hedland I lost a wheel bearing 200km south of Carnarvan.Luckily I was towing a trailer with my VFR 1000 and Todds Katana on it.I unloaded my bike, pulled out the axle and tied it over my shoulder.I raced into Carnarvan and the local Ford dealer got out of bed on a Sunday morning and fitted a new bearing for me.Back to the car, load up the bike and away I went.
