What's the info on this dyno day Gav ? I just had a squizz thru the motor sports and up coming events and didn't see any threads ?

I'm with you on the diagnosis Fozzie bear!

If oil temp and pressure were fine and not through the roof then it wasn't a blockage anywhere or pump failure. They just don't fit.

Fingers-crossed it's something as 'simple' as a sheared flywheel/bolt/gearbox piece. You can bin the faggy manual and put a worked, hi-stalled C4 into it now hahahaha tongue.gif

Keep us updated though, I'm keen to know the outcome!

oops cats out the bag haha details will be posted shortly andy.

Looking forward to the details Gav !!!

Ah that sucks foz. Lets hope its nothing major.

Well I took the gearbox and bellhousing and clutch out today and found nothing is amiss. The flywheel bolts and clutch were fine. Also I've checked all the rocker gear and that is fine as well.Next weekend I will be taking the motor out and taking the sump off to see why it is not turning.I have a couple of theories but I think it is possible the oil pickup may of come adrift and snagged the crank. Will know for sure next weekend. sad.gif

FTe_XR8- 04-04-2009
hrmm it's not sounding very promising, but got my fingers crossed for ya that it's only the pickup. goodluck.

Sorry to hear about your engine mate. I hope you are right about being just the pick up, but i doubt it, I really cant see it happening. I think by the time your bolts rattled loose, oil pressure would have dropped and caused bearing failure before the pickup would have actually fallen off.

If you are running pressed gudgeon pins, and suffered detonation from a bad tune, then you may have had a pin come loose in the piston and walk out into the bore. Hopefully not tho.

I assume you have actually but a breaker bar on the crank bolt and tried to turn the engine, and not relying on the starter

Thanks mate. Not sure about the gudgeon pins but it has forged pistons so I assume they were fitted with heat. Also the car was running sweet and made no rattling or banging noises.Iv'e been thinking about what I will find when I take the engine out this weekend and I am starting to think the crank has broken. When this engine was built I had them put in my 4MAB crank from my previous motor. Now I'm worried it has failed. Will know for sure on Saturday.
I didn't try and force the engine to turn too hard as I wasn't sure if it would do more damage but we couldn't turn it by hand using the gilmer pulleys.

Damn that sucks mate! Hope its a easy fix and not something major!

Mavver05- 04-09-2009
was actually wondering earlier if theres been any news on your beast

judging by the comment of taking the engine out this weekend im guessing not

keep us posted wadesta/thumbsup.gif

good luck

foz- 04-11-2009
Well I took the engine out today and I'm afraid it is not good news at all.The list of damaged parts is long and expensive.A valve has belted a hole in the top of one of the pistons.Valve spring is broken.Roller Roka is damaged.Valve is snapped.Piston is destroyed.Con Rod is bent and to top it off it has cracked the bore as well.
I will have to talk to the engine builder next week to see what my options are.I may be able to sleeve the split bore and if the crank is not bent then replace 1 piston and rod and valve. If the crank is bent then it is going to get very expensive.
Either way it will be a while before the car is running again. sad.gif

Good luck with getting it all fixed Foz.
