was any engine work or setting changed when you took it into performance unlimited when getting the new tune and everything done?

CJP- 04-11-2009
No! Was there any kind of warranty you can fall back on with the builder? i.e. is it something that shouldn't of happened or just a failure? Sorry to here the news.

PF-otog- 04-11-2009
Jeez Don! I'd imagine your heart sunk like a stone, in water, when you saw that! sad.gif

foz- 04-11-2009
Ben my heart sank when I took the sump plug out and coolant came out first. The oil was sitting on a layer of coolant which is why the level was a bit high on the dipstick but didn't show any signs of coolant.
Chris I haven't spoken to the engine builder but there is no way they will warranty anything like this.Theres no way of knowing what broke first. It was probably the valve spring or a collette. These things do happen.Iv'e heard of guys putting the most expencive gear in there engines and have them break on start up.
Gav the tune was done to match the new fuel pump and reg to the carby.A while ago I had it detuned a bit as I was having trouble with the fuel delivery so that was reversed to maximise power now that the fuel system was fixed.Thats why it was making an extra 40 RWHP.The only thing changed was the blown exhaust manifold gasket.

That looks very nasty Don

As a rule anything labled a "performance engine" has 0 warrenty.

Hopefully you work something out with it, i say time for a 393 tongue.gif

thats not good at all! i do have a spare crank if you want it.... i shouldnt be needing it as im getting a stroker one eventually. i've also got the 2V heads stripped down and chemically cleaned but they need new valve guides and prob springs and stuff. hopefully you get something sorted. If you want anything let me know then i'll swap you for the sump!

Thanks Eugene. If the crank is stuffed I will be putting a Scat one in.The heads should be Ok.The spark plug is smashed in there and the valve is stuck in the guide but they can be replaced. At this stage I'm up for
1 Forged piston
1 polished ground and shotpeened rod
1 double valve spring
1 Stainless steel one peice ferrier exhaust valve
1 new roller tip on the rocker
1 set of crank bearings
1 sleeved bore
1 ful set of Felpro gaskets
The engine will have to be stripped and cleaned and checked and re assembled as well.So I would expect it to cost up to 5 grand depending on if anything else is stuffed.
Will have a long chat to the Engine guy next week and sit down and work out what I can afford.
I'm a bit bummed about it but that is the nature of high performance cars.Things do go wrong.
On top of the engine I need a new clutch and flywheel as well so that is another grand.Just have to hope my bike sells soon. sad.gif

Oh that sucks Don! Hope the bike sells soon for ya!

gabbs19- 04-12-2009
Ouch sorry to here about the bad news. I guess these things happen and you just have to bite your tongue and make it bigger and better.

foz- 04-13-2009
Heres another pic of the damaged parts. You can see the valve spring is broken and the bits of piston I pulled out of the sump along with the collets.

danc666- 04-13-2009
FARK thats a lot of damage!!!

biggav- 04-13-2009
bugger the 393 i call for a man O war crate motor haha

XW393- 04-13-2009
Ouch! Thats not pretty at all.

If i where you, I would think long and hard about just changing the 1 cylinder pack. It really wont cost that much more for a whole new bottom end, and you can have real confidence in your engine. Changing 1 clylinder is the sort of thing we do with farmers gear, or for broke truckies, I definately wouldnt contemplate doing it with a high performance engine, unless it was a very fresh build.

What was your engine combo? I am interested to know what brand parts may have failed.

I dunno how your heads will pull up, but I have a nice set of 4V cc heads ready to bolt on with all the fruit that are for sale.

AYE YOU- 04-13-2009
bad luck buddy that looks like some nasty damage.

hope all go's well with the fixup wadesta/thumbsup.gif
