Well good news and bad news.I didn't crack the radiator it was the $10 plastic overflow bottle tongue.gif .
The bad news is I have no fuel pressure again.Thinking the pump may be damaged.I am now officially over my electric pump wadesta/C1.gif

Finnally had a chance to look at the car today.Cleaned the fuel filter and now I have full pressure again.I'm thinking the filter is too fine for a carby engine car.It may be a fuel injection filter for use with a higher pressure.Anyone have any experience with this type of thing feel free to clue me in.
Picked up a new overflow tank and will test it out tomorrow.Seems the old one has a hairline crack in the bottom that only opens enough to leak when the engine gets hot.
If all goes well tomorow I will be at Kwinanna for the Mystery Monday.

G'day Foz,

I reckon that for the fact that you are able to get full fuel pressure with a clean filter, that you have a contaminant issue rather than a fuel pump issue.

If you weren't getting full fuel pressure on a clean filter, then I would suggest that you might of had a fuel pump issue.

I'd be hunting down the source of the contamination first and see where that leads.

If your fuel tank is an original, it might be time to bite the bullet and go for a new one....Superoo ford spares in Armadale stock top quality repro tanks.

Bottom line is that the entire fuel system has to be squeaky clean.

As a foot note I am running the original 3/8" lines on my XD with a Holley 80 GPH mechanical pump through an AED in line filter and easilly flow enough fuel for 360+ RWHP, so your electrical pump and fuel set up should be killing it.

If you have a fuel pressure gauge handy, I would be out of curiosity checking the differential pressure across the fuel filter (i.e inlet pressure vs discharge pressure) when it is totally clean.

Cheers

Thanks mate.I have just had the tank and pump and rear fuel lines out and cleaned or replaced them all. There was some crap in the tank and pump which I pulled out.The filter I run is a Moroso unit with a removeable S/S element inside. The element looked clean today when I pulled it out except for some fine grit.Once cleaned the pressure went from 3psi to 9psi.Carby's are a bit more forgiving of grit than fuel injectors so I may try a different element that flows a bit more. Also I am looking at the new Holley mechanical pump that flows nearly as much as the Holley black pump I run now as the electric pump has been a bit troublesome.
Iv'e had a look at the Superoo tanks and they look good and for $750 they are competative with making an ally tank.
I think this winter I will have to make a decision and get some maintenance done. The car has been running as is for about 4 years now so it is due. wadesta/thumbsup.gif

Well didn't make the drags.Luckily I spotted a fault with the alternator or I may have ended up stranded with a flat battery.I had a flat battery after the Ford V holdon day so I charged it up and it seemed to be OK.But coz I run a deep cycle high crank amp calcium battery it still sounds like it is cranking OK but when I put a meter on it I found it was nearly flat.It may be time to step up to an 80 amp alternator as the XW was not designed to run electric fuel pump, electric ignition upgraded stereo etc. Iv'e seen some nice chrome 80 amp ones biggrin.gif

Well I bought this 100amp alternator from e-bay tonight.Brand new and chrome to boot for $152.50 wadesta/thumbsup.gif
