still fairly new to modding cars and whatnot... what sort of costs are involved in getting a new diff fitted to an AU XR6?

WILS_88- 01-30-2009
Whats wrong with it or what do you want done with it mate?

wow...cheers lads but I was just asking out of curiousity at this stage! in the future I want to put something a bit tougher than the standard diff in it though smile.gif

I have only had the car for about a week and I have noticed a slight knock coming from underneath when the car is going slow (20kph ish). It disappears at higher speeds, its just got me a little worried though. The car is under the statutory warranty, but I cannot find exactly what the warranty covers. I am having the RAC check it out next week to see what the issue is, and to check out other warrantable items too.

I know I probably should have had it tested before buying, but.... welll .... I drove it and just fell in love with it. Certainly drove better than the other AU XR6's I checked out... plus it has the full service history and is in bloody good nick inside and out smile.gif

wouldnt say diff.

as brad said is it IRS (diff looks like this from the back 0x0) or Solid Axle (looks like this 0--0) rough crude drawings i know lol

would be looking at trailing arm bushes and any other bush that goes hand in hand with rear suspension.

If you are talking about a bit of a clunk from the diff when you turn at slow speed and the diff is cold then I think that all AU's with IRS do it.My AU XR8 did it and I know Glenns does as well.I had mine from nearly new as well so it wasn't damaged. If that is all it is then I don't think it is a problem. wadesta/thumbsup.gif

Spot on with the trailing arm bushes wadesta/face.gif
Makes like a chudda chudda chudda sound.

It's probably not a bad plan to give the diff an oil flush anyway though. I don't think the noise is especially likely to be the diff but the oil in them never gets changed.

hahahah love the crude drawings gav

i had a diff that looked like this 0--\0
it got a bit bent

korben- 01-31-2009
rofl... thanks for the tips guys

next time I get the car out I will check out the diff and post a little ascii pic tongue.gif

are the bushes an expensive thing to replace?

I'm guessing that if they do require replacement... it wont be covered by the stat warranty :\

Daynesy- 01-31-2009
Bushes arent expensive no. As to the ease of replacing them, i know that with the rear it can get tricky. Because of the dif. Not 100% on that but thats what i've heard. Theres a place that can pretty much service your rear end, replace bushes, flush dif etc. Moody was telling me about it. Im sure theres multiple other places.

korben- 01-31-2009
ive gotta get it booked in for a warranty inspection by the rac (unless there is someone who can recommend a mob who do it cheaper). Once that is done, I can see where I go from there

I will probably see what the forum sponsors can do..
