2k you'd expect a aftermarket computer. mellow.gif

A flash tuner is $595, then allowing 2-3 hrs tuning on top, some places charge 130 an hour for dyno tuning, maybe all up 1g - 1100.

Either way it allows for future modifications (hint hint) and all it will take is a couple of hours tuning on top.

if it is done properly by someone who knows what they are doing it is better that way than forking out more for a new engine because it wasn't done properly in the first place.. The phrase "You get what you pay for.." springs to mind wink.gif

how much dif do flash tunes makes? very very noticable? ive never modded a car really so.

Yea Benny but 2k just for the tune is just a rip off! As schnoods said most places work on about $130 an hour

so long as my engine doesn't blow i dont give a f*** how much it would cost tongue.gif still cheaper than a new engine i suppose laugh.gif

I suppose one must shop around and see what they can dig up in the way of a good deal

I'd rather pay for a good quality tune than go on the cheep side. As for the cost $130 - 150 per hour seems to be about the sweet spot. So it will depend on ow much tuning you want done.

I'd go the flash tuner you will really notice the difference, then if you want more power then look into the other things like tb, helix spacer (they sound wicked!!), manifold, heads then tune it again. then if you still want more power go a stroker kit and a cam and re-tune it. All depends how far you want to go and how deep your pockets are.

stroker kit.... yeah a 5.6 stroker kit would do nicely. tongue.gif

If you want to warm up the 302 (sorry, 5L nowadays....) then get a decent intake manifold on it, you already have an exhaust, change the heads and put a decent cam in it. Once you've done all that go and see Simon at Xtreme Ford Tuning and speak to him about what your options are re: ecu. He tuned my Fairmont and I couldn't recommend him highly enough. Especially after seeing one of the motors being built in the corner and witnessing his perfectionism. If you want the best job done and if you care about your car running at its absolute peak still with longevity in mind, he is the only man to speak to.

The Manifold is pretty good on the AU XR8.

Possibly a bit of portng on it, they are one of the best manifolds for the 5ltr's torque under 5000rpm.

Above 5000 its a different story.

But as Jais said, a new set of heads (afr 165's, trickflow), a nice lumpy cam, larger MAF, larger TB would probably be the go. Net around 300-320 rwhp depending on the bottom end. The heads aren't too bad and neither is the cam and rockers, just that they aren't all out.

Or go a blower. biggrin.gif

GlennO87- 01-25-2008
I think the go is extractors, flash tune, helix spacer, bigger throttle body and the custom tune or something should give me 60kw roughly.

Can you guys tell me why everyone is raving about Difollipo or how ever its spelt over Pacemakers?

Elmo- 01-25-2008
Well the Difillipos are more aimed at the B series I'm not up to date enough for the 5L's maybe someone else can shed some light???....

BENXR6T- 01-26-2008
i reckon di fillipo headers are over rated.

if i ever have to get headers again, i'l get ceramic coated pacemakers

GlennO87- 04-06-2008
Well i want more power now, and alot of people have told me that without super charging my car of putting in a 347 stroker, that its going to cost alot of money. Apparently these motors are not easy to get a wack of power out of like an XR6T and that.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo.....The plan is..........and this is where i want advice from you guys.

Ive driven XR6T`s and BA XR8`s.......they drive alot nicer than the AU but the downfall is there is one around every corner, hardly any AU XR`s around and there unique...Upper hand is the B series is a better starting point power wise, more options especially with the turbo, drive nicer blah blah.

So im trying to decide whether to just bolt a supercharger onto it or just sell it and buy an XR6T or a BA XR8...

What are your thoughts?

Cheers

Big Tilly- 04-06-2008
try and get hold of a boss motor? anyone know if one would fit into an au?

the xr6T's are quick tho wink.gif

schnoods- 04-06-2008
Get a set of AFR 165 heads, a 2031 cam from crane and and a set of 1.72 roller rockers with pushrods to suit. That'll see a 13 second pass. with a set of 3.9's in the rear you'll get another .3-.5 of a second better.

You wont have to worry when you lift the bonnet either when a copper demands it and a BA xr6/xr8 will have you craving more power when they are stock....

A boss motor would be too big I would think, not without alot of cut and shut anyways.
