my car came stock with underdrives too. But you can get aftermarket ones that will give you more power. The race underdrives to suit my car will give me 10-12 rwkw which is a good gain. Not too shure what they make fore the au's though.

A flash tune will be your best bang for buck and is prob your next step if you dont wanna do cams yet. If you do cams, stroke it, ect later just get it re-tuned to suit. One of those helix throttle body spacers may be a goer as well. Some trickflow heads are another thing to look at as well. Ignition stuff will give some gains but the bang for buck won't as good as a flash tune. 10mm leads will give stronger spark but as for how much power it will give is minimal. 8mm should be enough unless you have some crazy ignition gear.

port tehg f*** outa the manifold or get a better one. do the heads aswell.
when you do the cam, run the au3 or bigger style maf and a larger TB.

BENXR6T- 01-04-2008
how much power are you chasing?

diff gears, good intake, tune and a set of drag radials should see your times rapidly improve, and their all pretty minimal mods

I wanna do all i can to the outside so to speak before ripping things open and doing cams and heads and that stuff.

Anyone got any idea how much kw gain i would get from a flash tune? Im putting out about 220kw or a bit less now i would say because im doing the same times as a 220kw basiclly or a TAD slower like .1.........

Im a bit sus about these things on the BPT site like the "Power Pipe"

And like the Helix Spacer $250 for 2kw? Would you even fell the difference?

And $170 for a Phenolic spacer for 2kw? Worth it?

Also throttle bodys? worth it?

Im just weary of what my dough is going on. Im sure you guys understand.

I will probably end up going an SS Induction kit as i wanna keep my headlight covers. 1# i like them 2# stands out from all the other AUs because most dont have them there for sucking in sir from the headlight would fail.

So please attempt to answer all the krap i just said ahahhahaa wadesta/good.gif

$250 for 2kw definately not worth it.
Diff gears will give you a better take off good for drags but will reduce your overall topspeed. and you will be doing higher revs than you currently are with the gears you have for the same speeds.

ie. 3.91 at 100 in my senator is 1900rpm
3.7s at 100 is 1650rpm

Depends if you want to get every bit out of it. You wanna do all the outside bits before opening the engine well thats all the bits right there apart from a s/charger. I have heard a few ppl talk about a value rating of 10rwkw per $1000 is good value. Most bolt on bits don't give a heap of power, power comes from a good tune. A custom flash tune would prob see you with around 30-40 more kw's so thats the best value right there. With a generic flash tune you might get 15-20 kw's.

GlennO87- 01-06-2008
30-40rwkw just from a custom flash tune? How much would that set me back? 1k?

BENXR6T- 01-06-2008
yeah about that mate. a good tuner will take 6-7 hours to tune your car on the dyno, you pay for their time

xt3valve- 01-06-2008
BPT took about 1 hour to tune mine. maybey a bit more. There must be some slow ass tuners out there. You can get the cappa flash tuner for about $600 now and a custom dino tune for your car about $350.

Seriously glenn if you dont want to spend alot of money. I would recomend just getting a cold air induction kit and a custom flash tune. I wouldnt worry about buying those expencive addons that only give you 2kw. Then save up for the big mods like supercharging or stroking and cams for a later date.

BENXR6T- 01-06-2008
thats because a good quality tuner will take hours to tune a car, run after run on the dyno, changing little things until its perfect

thats how simon at extreme got a 12.8 out of a BA XR6T auto, with just the custom tune

GlennO87- 01-06-2008
and the manifold smile.gif.

Might just go the manifold, SS Induction Kit and a custom flash tune.

More to the point on Bens post is his is a turbo and they do take that sort of time frame as they have to let the cars cool down all of the time.

danc666- 01-06-2008
I'd say you'd be looking at around $1200 for the flash box and a good tune for power and maybe a more fuel friendly tune as well.

BENXR6T- 01-06-2008
even if you get generic tunes, 98 octane, 95 and valet, its gonna give you a good power increase. best band for your buck mod you can do
