Is it really worth slapping on something that you didn't really want in the first place? yea it would be good to have it ready for Powercruise, but if you aren't happy with it it then what? blink.gif

oh dont get me wrong I would be over the moon with the vortech unit. Remember its Marksworkshop where talking about. WA's number 1 supercharger specialist. He doesnt do anything half mast either.

Actualy the vortech unit would be better for the 3v because the boost on them comes in at mid rpm. The 3v is good down low but needs a hand mid to high rpm. Wheres the peek power on the PD blower comes in at like 1500rpm. Which is good for the boss blocks because they need help down low and not up high. So if you look at it that way the Vortech is the way to go for my engine.

PD's look good with it sitting on the engine and all, but sometimes you just have to go whith whats best for what you have to get the most out of it.

Yea the Vortech is better for Mid to high range. Diff gears are also another option.. it will kick it in the pants... Im about a year or so off my freind K.Bell, saving madly biggrin.gif

Ok got the final word from Mark at Marksworkshop. The blower unit will be a Vortech v2 s-trim with front mount intercooler. The price is still $12500 but that is for everything included in the system drive away. Im not saying its a kit because mark wants to do a half custom job on it. Meaning he will work with the CAPA kit but customise it to make it his own. And because he has never done a 3v before he will try new things to suit the engine.
He said the v2 unit is good for 650rwhp but he predicts my engine will make between 450 and 500rwhp. Not bad ey but not getting my hopes up..
Fitting time will be about 3 days.
Day one he will go over the car, measures pipework ect, does the first dyno and tests.
Day 2 he fits the supercharger and intercooler and gets the system running, does all the mechanical tuning and the dyno tuning. Road tests it.
Day 3 is the cold start tests and final tuning. Then me with a smile from ear to ear drives it back to Perth FAST.
I could get it fitted in two weeks if I wanted too but will hold off for a month just to get funds sorted. And front bumpers painted.

Just thaught I would keep you guys and gals posted on the progress.

Cheers
Shaun

it would sooo be worth it.. i reckon

does he do the emissions testing and give you all the stuff to make it 'legal?

foz- 03-31-2008
Sounds like it will be a rocket mate wadesta/buttrock.gif wadesta/buttrock.gif

xt3valve- 03-31-2008
Thats alot of fun dont you mean. Remember thats close to 500kw at the motor. Thats alot of power for a 3v. 500rwhp is the absolute max so im not expecting that. With 3.7 or 4.11 gears I will be in the low 12sec 1/4mile bracket. A 3v fairmont with a turbo and about 320rwkw has done 11.7 1/4s full street trim over east.

Yep he gives you full engineers certificates and all. Everything is legal.

Its not just the blower im paying for its the quality of workmanship that goes into it. Mark does a very high standard of work. No shortcuts and thats what you pay for. He said that he would rather keep my car for a week longer if need be to get it absolutly running perfect than to rush it out the door in 3 days and have it running satisfactory. Thats the person I want working on my car.

Heres a link to his website: Marks Workshop

If you think about it, most people pay 3 grand for a mere 40rwkw increase with v8's, so thats on par.

So i guess the 3v's had a different crank to the 4v's? Because I remember reading a Perth street car or alike that the boss motors had a s*** crank and had to be ditched around the 400 rwhp mark iirc.

Definately keep us up to date, very interested with this one.

xt3valve- 03-31-2008
Not too shure on the cranks. But if you look on the MWS (marks workshop) site you can see that some xr8 and gt's are pushing 450 to 550rwhp and some with more. He recomended I only go upto 500rwhp if we can get it.

MR XR- 03-31-2008
i havent heard of that before moody? any chance of finding info? as far as im aware, Big Boss motors over east are running the same cranks...

Shaun, should be a huge hit with the 3.7's or 4.11's be sure to keep the auto happy tho. will there be a rebuild down the track?

xt3valve- 03-31-2008
Possibly not a rebuild for the auto mr xr. Heaps of boss and xr8's with similar power im hoping for are still on the standard auto. I have the same auto and driveline as the xr8 and boss.

MR XR- 03-31-2008
oh yea, wasnt doubting the auto, just remember to keep the old girl cool. was more refering to the engine... to handle more boost. id invest in some XForce Gauges too. Oil Pressure, Oil Temp and Boost biggrin.gif

Little Blue ZH- 03-31-2008
Sweeeeeet! I haven't even seen your car and I'M excited about this laugh.gif . Should be awesome when she's done wadesta/good.gif

Moody- 04-01-2008
Yeah I'll dig the info up, haven't got a scanner though. Pretty sure it was an MWS car aswell. 550-600rwhp BA XR8
