Well LIONHUNTR is now on its way to recovery. I took out the old IRS unit today and swaped the diff, axils half shafts well everything over to a new second hand unit. And bolted the new one in. Finaly its on the ground and driving again. It hadnt moved ever since I limped it home from powercruise. But yeh it now drives straight as an arrow.

Sorry I didnt take any pics. Myself and a mate were flat out all day.

It sill has massive flesh wounds though making it unsuitable for road use. So now I just have to take it to airbourn suspensions and get the front wheels alighned. Than its off for some quotes on the custom bodywork. Should start getting exiting very soon.

f***en awesome mate. Great to hear she drives at least now. The IRS give you any grief getting the old one out and the new one in?

Thats good news shaun!

Na removing and installing the irs wasnt too bad actualy. Most of the people I talked too before doing the job said that it was almost impossible to do it on the ground just having it up on jack stands. But hehe I prouved them wrong didnt I.

The hardest part was getting it out of under the car after I had droped it because of the weight of the damn thing. but yeh we did it. And dont ask me to do it again hehe.

Heres a bit of a sneek peek at the type of rims I will be going. Full one piece billet alloy. They will be simmilar to these. Hopfuly 20" if they fit or 19" with low profile red wall tyres.

Nice work. What did the new IRS come out off... diff ratio etc.. did you replace that pesky bolt with a stronger one before it went in the car? smile.gif

EF ECTIV- 12-23-2008
nice rim choice.... intro billet twisted vista? Or is it vista 2 or something, I get them mixed up.....

xt3valve- 12-24-2008
I got the IRS out of a wrecked ba 6cyl. I swaped everything out of my bent irs including diff, axils, brakes, springs everything realy and put it all onto the 6cyl one. The irs units out of the 6cyl and v8 are the same only difference being diff and axils and springs. So yeh its still using the same diff.

I gt the irs unit bare with no diff or axils in it which made it easy for me.

xt3valve- 12-24-2008
Intro Billet Vista ll Twisted. And yep nice. Just gotta find out if they make them to suit BA offset. If not will have to get them custom made to suit.

schnoods- 12-24-2008
What about the diff bolt that sheared? End up using a Beefier one?

Nice choice on the rims, would look killer with a massive amount of dish.

xt3valve- 12-24-2008
In the end the bolt didnt snap. So that wasnt the problem. I was thinking about it and what I put it down too is the LSD trying to get traction as the skid ended resulting in one tyre getting more traction than the other and sending me sideways. I did somthing stupid too. I had never driven the car with the skinny 215 tyres plus a supercharger, so didnt know what to expect and I hadnt checked the air pressure either and one tyre had about 8psi less than the other. Which no doubt would have upset it also.

Or it could have just been my bad driving hehehe.

fnp- 12-24-2008
I really would replace that bolt if I were you though especially since the IRS was out of the car at the time. BA's are notorious for snapping those bolts especially cars that are driven hard. You should have had some fat 265s on the back too, more smoke biggrin.gif

xt3valve- 12-24-2008
It had no problem with the smoke mate.
