Alright im in a pickle, I have a au1 6 cyl that the gearbox is naked. I have a replacement but it has come out of a 5ltr mustang and we dont know what sort or any more details. Is there a code on it that will tell me? Next question is i have had it on a 351c and had no problems. I have also robbed the nuetral switch box thing off the side and put it on the au box it worked no probs. What i need to know is, is it going to bolt on to the au motor and is there any difference in wiring. A long shot with no info but thats why i want to know if there is a marking on it to tell me what it is. Thanks in advance.

and codes will more than likely come up and maybe have issues wiring up transmission if could find a way of bolting it up.

if its a aod overdrive auto out of a mustang would be worth more than a 2nd hand au6 auto.

I have a bell housing to suit but yeah the wiring is what im worried about. How do you tell if its an aod?

sounds like a btr box for a V8. are all the electrical conections on the out side of the box the same??

The rear extension housing is different a different lengh, and its not a matter of just changing the case at the rear, the whole box would have to be striped and the rear exit shaft changed.

Sorry im unsure on the wires so i will have to check. Can you use a au 8 tailshaft maybe? Will check wiring but as a back up anyone got a reasonable box for an au 6?

V8 and 6 tailshafts the same, its the lengh of the bellhousing thats different, cauing the extension howsing to be different lengh to suit.

Well i got a AU 6cyl auto box, 150xxx, was in perfect cond till i took the shims from it for mine, could use it still, just need to pull yours down and use the shims from that to re-adjust the bands in it, easy done.

all good they have heaps of au's parked around the joint

stay away from mine lol

the only thing i do to a gearbox is pull them out and put them in no shims involved lol

What year mustang is the box from. Pre- 94 is an AOD(non-electronic) and post 93 is AODE(electronic).
Either way they are a completely different gearbox to a aussie BTR.
