This is what the rear mount started. Well just a plain piece of 40x40mm Galv RHS (Galv coz i picked it up for free). My mate Dave then drilled the two hole to go into mount then milled out the access hole to get to the nuts. Then was obviously cut to length. Then i picked up a short length of angle (one side longer then the other, i actually dont have the measurements). Cut it into to 60mm widths. Measured the 2 x holes in chassis each side for crossmember mount and lined them up against RHS dummy mounted to TKO then marked them into the angle and drilled them. This allowed us to use all 4 chassis mounting points for trans instead of only the 2 that are normally used. Then both angles and RHS were hard mounted up than clamped together and tack welded into position. I then took the mount to work and MIG'd it up properly. Not quite satisfied that it will be strong enough, my mate then cut me out 4 x 10mm thick triangle gussets out of flat bar to be used on the backside to join angle to the RHS. He also cut out 2 x end plates to "cap" off the RHS for a cleaner look. I then took it back to work and welded all 4 gussets on and the 2 end caps. Cleaned it all up and home with the 5" grinder and flapper-disc. Then gave it a lick of paint. This is how it turned out. Then this is it all mounted up. Almost looks factory. Obviously wasnt too keen on getting the spray can right inside the RHS else i would have ended up with more runs than Cathy Freeman, bu its all Galv in there so its all good. (And yes, all Galv coating was removed from wleding surfaces with a flapper disc before welding)

Jeez that looks great Jeff. Glad to hear it's all done! hopefully my XR will have one of these one day.

Great stuff Jeff, looks like the rear mount was done by a pro or 2.
So what sorta clutch did you end up going for and what else have you got planned now you can put it throgh with out worrying about the box (diff comes to mind?)?

Thanks Jas, yeah came up great. I could have gone abit harder with the flapper-disc to clean it up but i just wanted the damn thing on the car lol.
Clutch is basically the same as what i've always ra. An Extreme Cushioned button ceramic. Its basically a T3 clutch which gives me the 26slpine clutch disc and the 5.0 clutch cover, perfect. Pedal feel is ALOT harder than previous though.
Yeah diff definately needs an upgrade, but it looks like i'll be sneaking some boost in before that gets taken care of. Will see how i go. Been spending abit of cash on the missus car lately too, which is killing it.

Took the ute out for a nice cruise down the coast today with a few mates in e-series and the missus in her AU. The ute performed perfectly and did not miss a beat, really happy. Dropped 2nd a few more times than i probably should have, but i tried to be as gentle as possible
Didnt really get any good pics but heres a couple that i did get.

Next time you go on a cruise like that Jeff, I'd be keen to come along if I'm home. It's good to se the big girl on the road again.

You werent home on Monday were you? Let me know when your home each time so i can get you to come along. A 3rd red EL XR8 would have topped it off nicely, especially with a f***in tuff windsor in it!!!
